Like the cross channel ferries, it has a few bow thrusters, and will turn on a sixpence.. Unlike a cross channel ferry, one week in a penthouse cabin will cost you $200k.. Although Brittany Ferries price to St Malo in the height of summer ain't far off..

Used to be a police boat, blue lights haven't been taken off. Amazing how many people slow to the speed limit when they see you coming!

Its JIMBO had the blue lights,I had a look over that rib when I did my PB2,it looked pretty serious.

I don't think blue lights have any legal rights on a boat - maybe we should all fit them - that shopuld annoy the authorities!!!

I think you will find that, in order to fit & use blue lights on a vessel you would have to have written permission to do so from the relevant Harbour Authority.

This example from The Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 1999 may help:-

Blue flashing lights
19. - (1) Vessels of the following organisations are authorised to exhibit a blue flashing light in the course of their duties:

Queen's Harbour Master Plymouth

Ministry of Defence Police

Her Majesty's Customs and Excise

Her Majesty's Coastguard

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary - Marine Police Unit

Devon Fire and Rescue Service - Plymstock Fire boat

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution

The Torpoint Ferry
(2) Save with the licence in writing signed by the Queen's Harbour Master no other vessel is to exhibit a blue flashing light (of any frequency) on the waters of the Dockyard Port of Plymouth.

(3) All vessels shall be ready to respond to instructions and requests for assistance from vessels displaying blue flashing lights.

Well, yeah, but that is to exhibit the light (which I assume means having them on, or they wouldn't be flashing.)

To simply *have* the light (or safer yet, the fixture and lens with no innards), would, by the letter of the law, be legal, if frowned upon.

That depends on what you class as "the open sea" CP. A Harbour Authority or Dockyard's sphere of influence can extend quite a way from the actual harbour itself. The Dockyard Port of Portsmouth extends from very near the Nab Tower all through the eastern Solent and almost to Cowes.

We ve got them too (the blue lights) but we're also an enforcement agency! Besides I m still a State Registered Paramedic

so think we can get away with it with that option!

In my flat in southampton, too far away to see but the firework display for the ship SOUNDS pretty good! I'm led to believe the QM2 is 6 metres longer than that thing and it turns ok by its berth opposite dibden bay, if surprisingly quickly. This ship is meant to be bigger as the beam is a fwe metres wider although i dont fancy getting the tape measure out!!
