No Rib I know of goes very well in reverse. They tend to just bury the stern and take on water.
Best bet is go forwards !

I thought it was the propeller that made our osprey to react like an oiltanker in reverse...

I've owned or helmed a fair number of outboard/outdrive boats inc. a pair of Vipermax. As far as I'm concerned, they all go backwards pretty much the same.

If by that you mean the go backwards ok, then mine and our friend in Stockholm have unique ones, as mine really does not go backwards well, and I am sure it is the prop.

This has to be one of weirdest Ribnet discussions for a while..So for that reason I think we should keep this going.
Please describe what is happening... How fast would you like to be able to go backwards would be a useful point to know as well...

I don't get it, you throw her into reverse, get loads of wet stuff over the transom and gradually go blunt end first, what's the problem?

The problem is that it doesn't feel like if you get any grip.
Lets say that you are going forward in 5 knots and need to put in reverse. I can rev our engine to 1500-2000 rp/m and sometimes even the two extra cylinders kicks in without any change for about 10 meters. It feels like if you are slipping.
You can really feel it when the boat is loaded. Its understanable but compared to our Chris Craft Lancer that is both heavier, and longer its a nightmare. You could probably do a stoppy with the Chris Craft.

As others have said, I would suggest the problem is the prop, they are designed to go forwards  There is little grip in reverse due to the cupping of the blades.
I do not know what the hull is like on a Chris Craft, but the Vipermax does have a fair amount of hull in the water, and so is going to be difficult to get going with the blunt end pushing the water aside.
Is the prop blade form on your Chris Craft similar to those on your Vipermax?
