It took some doing but I managed to cram all the cables, fuel hose, hydraulics, controls cables and other stuff up the bore of a 2" hose. I also glassed in a short piece of 2 1/2" bore stainess tube into the bottom starboard side of the console, the 2" bore plastic hose slips in perfectly and will be sealed with Sikaflex.
The picture is of inside the lower part of the console, I made an Aluminum tank and glassed it beneath the plywood floor you can see the top of the sender, the tank breather to the back and just make out the fuel outlet on the bottom right.

Finally got this project in the water last week, it was a bit too windy to venture out of the bay for a first run and I couldn't get full throttle but still it was AWESOME!!

The Searider is great fun but still needs a few jobs doing on it before I will be happy. At least its up and running (at last). I'm planning on doing an Anglesey to Isle of Man trip this summer so made an auxiliary engine mount today. The backup engine will be stored behind the jockey seat backrest (custom made for the job) and lifted into place if needed.
Here's a photo of the transom mount, I used a block of 1" thick black polypropylene as the pad and welded 4mm stainless plate to the tube.

Much better to work with than that fecking perspex that I tried to make a screen out of yesterday!
Just need to polish them welds up some more!

Looks great ! What is the aux you intend to put on ? What is the weight ?
Are you not afraid that due to the long SS tube + the relatively small plate on the transom you will add a quite big momentum to the transom ?

+1 for that bigger thicker plate on the transom and I'd put a couple of webbs on too

I thought about the loadings of this and kept the transom mounting plate footprint relatively small in comparison to the tube diameter so as to minimise the bending motion. I shock loaded the bracket when 1st fitted with 200lbs x ?factor (me hopping on one foot)

and it doesnt budge. The transom is substantially braced to the deck at that point so couldn't be better supported, at around 25lbs thrust per HP I think it will be ok for a 4hp 2stroke. I made a similar bracket on my old 6.2 mt and had a 6hp Evinrude swinging off that for years and in comparison to the crappy folding brackets that are supposed to be ok for 5hp I recon I'll be OK.

Really enjoying this Searider! Third weekend out in it now and it is performing brilliantly. Just touched 42mph (consistently at 38mph) with two of us plus diving kit, 50lt+ fuel, auxiliary engine, lunch box etc.
There is still a bit more to come, change prop from 17" to 19" and lift the engine up one hole.
Planning on going from Holyhead to Isle of Man this summer so want to get it just right. Hopefully the 19" prop will give me a fuel saving on a trip like that and I will keep the 17" for wake boarding.
The trailer is now letting the outfit down and i'm concerned about the gross weight so have bought all new parts to build a new 1300kg one. It should be ready for dropping off at the galvanisers later this week so might post a few before and after pictures.

The time has come to splash out on a nice brand new motor for this Searider!

So what's it going to be?

E-Tec 90 is looking favorite, weight is about right, still negotiating on price!

Suzuki DF90 seems to be on the weight but it's an extra £grand at least! But can it pack the punch of the E-tec?

Mercs & Mariners Opti's or EFI too heavy!

Maybe at 177kg with this plate on the back I can get away with a 115 V4 E-tec....

Anybody got an E-tec 90 on a 5.4 that is willing to take me for a spin?

Hi ,
I cannot tell you about the Suzuki but had a new 90 ETEC on my 5.4 and used the boat during the Round Ireland trip this year .
The motor never missed a beat and fuel consumption was 10 - 15% below the Yamaha 90 2stroke which I used before .
The prop was a 4 blade ROGUE and the ETEC hit with all gear in the boat 5200rpm which is ideal .
Furthermore I used the advantage of the ICON pro network gauges and had all possible data available .
The DF goes with 155kg to the permitted weight of the SR transom , is probably still a bit more economical on fuel and quieter but the offer I got for a DF90 was far more expensive then the ETEC .

the ideal engine for the SR is a yam 90 .. not because i like them (i do actually) its because its a narrow beamed craft, 150kgs on the rear was so unbalanced and stern happy.. yam 90 is 119kgs i think and perfectly balanced
