I must confess that I was in the upper regions of throttle use a fair amount of the time, especially when i decided to jump groups and catch up with Gurnard on the way towards the lighthouse... from then on we pootled along at 50% throttle and I saw a lot more of my surroundings... that was one of my biggest learnings from the weekend, pointed out to me by Gurnard... it's all too easy to put your head down and see nothing but the waves and bow of your boat rather than ease off and take in your surroundings and beautiful view.

I realised I have much to learn...

Yes that's very true. By the nature of our usual days out (Mersea) they tend to be destination based passages then a return fitted in with tides.

However our 1/2 week Scottish holidays are a totally different matter with plenty of time to look around.... and so much more to look at!

A wee trip across to Norn Iron? Ribochet can guide us. Camp on the Copeland Isles and Gurnard can get his lighthouse fix at the Maidens...

Or am I just too foolish/ambitious... Or in need of a proper Ulster Fry...

I love your ambition, and I think in the right conditions Scotland to NI is achievable in a SIB, but for a preselected date you need enough sheltered options that you can adapt to the weather on the day.

I've just done a good trip today: Tayvallich to Craighouse, and was looking at Gigha thinking it would make a proper trip of it, and also considering going north from Crinan, but this is mid July and most of the week has been far from ideal for that.

But of course there are 52 weekends in a year, so anyone could pick a date and venue and see who turns up.

Looks fantastic and inspiring. Will hopefully be able to attend the next meet. Quite fancy a trip round Bute in the near future or at least a trip to the Kyles of Bute.
