I'm assuming that the brave lads & lasses must have some kind of on-call duty rota. Otherwise they'd have to be teetotal hermits.

A boat local to me works a four team rota (each crew being rota'd for one week at a time) I'm not sure if that is the norm. I believe that on very long shouts (e.g. searching overnight and the next day) that an off duty team will take over.

I believe each station runs its own crewing system. However, I'm pretty sure that the MCA advise / legislate that each deployed crew must be refreshed every 4 hours. For the exact details google the "Rescue boat code of practice".

RNLI Opening Hours 2017

Yet another year of turbulence, heroism and tragic losses in SAR land is about to come to an end.

However its comforting to know that one thing that hasn't changed are the opening hours of the RNLI and other SAR organisations over the festive period.

When "uncertainty" seems to be the order of the day - it is comforting to know that all our voluntary SAR services will still be on standby, 24/7, over the Christmas period .

Yep - whilst the children are arguing over other issues my intel tells me that the RNLI and all the other voluntary SAR organisation will be offering "stability" throughout 2019 by continuing business as usual
Once again a big shout out to the volunteers and personnel of all SAR and Emergency services for all that they do for us
