Ribbing in the BVI

Just got back this morning from a 10 days holiday in the Caribbean. The usual gang of four - Mr & Mrs Mike C and Mr & Mrs Andre. This holiday included 6 days ribbing in the British Virgin Islands. Those who have been there will agree it is a ribbing paradise .The weather could have been better but was acceptable. Lots to see and superb snorkelling places.
The rib we had the pleasure of using was a Dutch made TP Marine 8 mtr rib. We were going to have use of a Parker 800 Baltic but when we arrived it was not available. The TR Marine was somewhat a blessing as the canopy provided good shade from the Caribbean sun.
Over the next week I will post some more photos of the islands, places to eat . I had my GoPro so once edited will post a few clips as well

Looks nice - did you base yourselves in one harbour each evening or tour from island to island ?

We hired a 4 x 4 at the airport and had accommodation in Road Town. Each day we just headed by rib into a different direction. we returned the rib to its marina between 4 and 5 PM. Only the locals take their boats out in the dark.
this was not our first time in the BVI

Done some flotilla sailing in the BVIs. Awesome snorkelling. Even better than the Red Sea!

A superb holiday destination but only if you are boating ie flotilla sailing or power boating. There are many very good snorkelling places like The Indians, Fallen Jerusalem and many more . The first two photos were taken at Fallen Jerusalem and you can see a Sting Ray

Most important are also the places to eat when you are out and about. so Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke, Willy T just off Norman Island, Leverick Bay on Virgin Gorda.
It is said the best Roti are at the Soggy Dollar and I agree

I was hoping to have a play with this rib but sadly one of the engines was out of action. a problem with the drive and it had to be sent away for repair

It is more or less impossible to hire such size rib. The rib is a chase boat and I got use of it for 5 days courtesy of a Yacht charter company. The cost of fuel was of course down to us.

Thanks Andre,
We might go and hire with The Moorings for a trip with a power Cat instead.

there are a few companies doing power boat charter . As a good tip take with you at least a hand held GPS with charts. Mike C had one and just as well as there was no GPS on the rib. We also took paper charts and even better if you can get a copy of The Cruising Guide to the Virgin Islands. We got a copy at SBS. Lots of good info
You will enjoy the visit.

you can tell that most of my demo ribs have been stern drive. Here should have said

I went sailing there this past June with family and friends. Had to be the best vacation I've had yet!

For roti there was a great place across the bay from the Bitter End YC.

We had roti's most days at different places but the one at Soggy Dollar for me was the best. The one at Nanny Cay was OK as well

Can't say I'm a connoisseur, it's was my first taste! good stuff. We didn't eat there, I think I just drank too much at the soggy dollar :-)

here is another clip shot as we left the Soggy Dollar bar behind. Typical BVI scenery . The clip is specially for those of you who have put their ribs to bed for the winter but wish they were still on the water

Enjoy
