Merlin and the Solent

Hi all

Another little running update

For a few weeks now we had been looking forward to having the 9th and 10th of June off so that we could get out on the boat. Well again we picked a great few days.

9TH June, firstly I had to pick the liferaft up before launching the boat, so the first picture is Merlin ready to be launched at Northney. I don’t know why but I don’t look forward to this bit, I think it’s the turn at the top of the ramp. I also chain the boat, as I don’t trust the winch strap. When I am at the bottom I have some wood blocks placed under the wheels…I once watched a car slowly making its way into the water at this slip (I did try to help, but you know what its like when you need something to ram under a wheel…you cannot find anything). Second picture is Merlin moored ready for the off.

So off we went to Portsmouth – Wotton – Bembridge and back to Northney. The third picture is from the fuel pontoon at Sparks Marine where we fuelled up. Nothing to report really apart from it was perfect conditions for ribbing, just perfect.

When we entering Bembridge there was someone who insisted on cutting me up in the channel just at the entrance, you know the bit you feel you could nearly jump to the beach, but whatever. So to my surprise he later (back out at sea) came from my port side and just kept coming, it was then that I realised he was a nut, so I just sped off out of the way.

On the Saturday (11th) we did pretty much the same, but visited Cowes and the Hamble,s o a great day.

So as ever nothing dropped off the boat. The Evinrude Fitch just runs and runs.

Finally we pulled it out the water and parked it up, which can be a little tricky for me due to the size and where it’s parked, I may move positions to make life a little easier in the future.
