Interceptors are great for the big swells, but awful for short chop, speak to most pilot coxn's who had Nelsons that now have interceptors and many will swop without hesitation... I am in no way bashing the interceptors as they are as strong as an ox, however for pilot boat ops in particular, then the Nelson hull is far more exact and predicable whilst manoeuvring towards a vessel at the outer pilot station - especially near Nab Tower for those that know it!!

The man knows his Pilot boats....
Hence the reason the SP boats (Southampton Patrol, Harbour Master launches Spitfire etc....) no longer go out any further than the PC buoy off Cowes.

Treerat; the first video was on the Columbia River bar, from the USCG Motor Lifeboat training school (Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Washington.)
The second is apparently a river a bit further south.
Love those 47MLB's.

The 47MLB is self-righting. It will roll 360 degrees and keep going. I understand that you lose some $10K worth of radio and GPS antennae when you do that, though...
Don't know if you'll hit the boats limit or the crew limit first. I'd bet it's crew.

Pretty much the view of the folks here who run them. There's a Nelson 40 used by the company I used to work for which has been around for 20 odd years and an Interceptor 42 that has been imported in the last few years by another company used in a similar agency role - which covers everything from pilot boat ops to medical evacuations from fishing vessels, tourist work and delivery and collection of crew and cargo. The experienced coxswains all say the Nelson is the one to take out when it's weather not to be out. Having been on it, it is a bit of a submarine and goes through stuff rather than over it so a lot of the time you can't see much even with the wipers on full blast but you should get there!
Bloody impressive video though, and as the OP said, you can keep your gin palace Sunseeker
