Turtles were taken in Cyprus,

These were taken off our local coastline.

Wobbly and stinging...

That was taken at about 50 feet, looking up. Had to go back down to free someone's stuck anchor (would have been about a half hour later), and they were thicker than that. Didn't have the camera with me, but it wouldn't have made a difference, as I couldn't have seen the screen with the camera in position. Lips were numb for a couple of days after that (that's about the only exposed skin when geared up.)

The orange eel is a juvenile Wolf Eel; the one with the hairdo is a Yellowfin Fringehead. The Yellowfin's are pretty tiny: the one in the pic is about the size of my pinkie (and I don't have huge hands.) They spend most of their time in a hole with just the head poking out a bit; apparently they come out at night to hunt, but I have never seen them out and about.

As an aside, we ran into a rather unusual visitor (for our waters) last weekend. I hadn't buttoned up the housing yet, so all shots were topside ones, and not very good. Still enough to raise a pretty good controversy on my diving maillist, as these guys aren't supposed to come around Central California.

I'm shooting a 7 year old Olympus 5050 point-and-shoot in a Light and Motion Tetra housing. Augmented by a couple of Inon Z-220 strobes.

One of these days I need to take the DSLR route, but I don't have the money to do so right now (I do own a boat, after all...)
