This is a 300tdi - I had a Discovery II TD5 auto which did 20mpg - but then again the Vectra 2.2SRi was only doing 18mpg!!!

I tend to drive my own cars a bit slower than the lease/hire ones!!!

Erm, my 300tdi did 29.5mpg on the last fill up - and some (ok, not all!) of that was towing a Ribtec 585.

our 300tdi was an auto and i think we used to get around 25 if lucky, the 200 was a manual and the td5 is an auto. dont think any of them ever did near 30 but that might be the way we drive and we used to tow around 3 tons, so minimal economy when towing!! i think the td5 is probably the thirstiest of the lot....which is a shame

It has to be said, I do drive like a bit of a Grandad. Don't go above 65 very often, keep the revs super low and smooth etc.

Most I've towed with the disco was about 2 tons, and I have to say it felt very composed. Can see why people like them.

Wouldn't be looking forward to towing a rib the size of Codprawns Prosport though, especially something shiny and new!

ahhh, i have to keep on at the mrs to slow down, keep the speed down in double figures!

had a shogun 3500 which was great but averaged 16 to the gal so the only prob was filling it up so often, jag did 17 so that was a major improvement!

Never worked out the mpg exactly, but if I put 60quids worth of Diesel in my 3.2TD LWB Manual Shogun I get about 420 to 450 Miles out of it. But a lot of that is 70 to 85 MPH up and down the A3 each day.

That works out, assuming 90.9p a litre (which is about right at the moment) at about 66 litres of Diesel, so 31mpg, which is pretty good for 70 to 85mph! 13.33p per mile.

Jimbo

Thanks for that, unfortunatly I'm paying more like 92p a litre, but getting some back in morrisons vouchers.

Still doesn't work out too bad though for a big motor.

If I'm sorted with a new job, during the summer I'm going to start looking at Amazons. For the latest spec (post Nov 04)They quote 31.4mpg Extra Urban for the 4.2TD Auto dropping to 26.6mpg for combined and 21.1mpg urban.

Its just got to be done.
