Humber 7.0 Ocean Pro

Hi everyone,

Some shots of Hi Flyer. Not great quality - took them off a vid we were going to edit & upload but need to sort out some webspace for that.

7.0mtr Humber Ocean Pro. Blue tubes, White hull, Twin consol, 140hp Suzuki, Front bow anchor locker & cushion pad, Front consol seat (x2 70 ltr tanks under) 2 single seat pods (wish I had Jono's seat backs but these are great for leaning against), Rear bench seat (reversable for when towing and need someone to spot for you).

Oars & boat hook held on velcro strap patches on either tube. One of the fire extinguishers & a throw line on brackets on the transom. Elephant trunk through the transom & a bilge pump. Single A-frame with nav lights & GPS dome & VHF aeriels. Couple of dry containers for flares, etc.

Electronics are: Raymarine 435 Chartplotter & GPS,
Garmin 250 Fishfinder,
Garmin 72 handheld backup GPS,
Fixed ICOM M421 DSC VHF,
Standard Horizon HX270E backup VHF

These first few shots were going to be video walk through of the RIB - but hey ho this will have to do for now. More to follow. Comments please. First time I've spec'ed a RIB so be gentle!

Some more video stills - towing a Chariot - off the D rings on the transom with a bridle to clear the engine.

Some more video stills of the chariot - sorry about the quality - RIB was bouncing around over the wake as well. Last one here is my son getting his own back and bouncing me out of the chariot. But I had just slowed down, crated a 2 foot wave and stuffed them into the back of it! Serves me right I suppose.

Humber 7.0mtr Ocean Pro

Took a video of Hi Flyer from the chariot - bit hairy and a lot slower but worked out quite well. Some more coming of Hi Flyer stretching its legs.

Last few for now. She topped out at 41 kts. Flat calm with no wind. 7.0mtr with a full fuel load, 4 people plus kit & safety equipment. Single 140hp Suzuki on the back. Trimmed out. Is that good or should I get more?

Sounds very good to me for a 140 on the back!

I can get about 43.1 with twin 115's... my boat is 7.5m though

I believe RichardB (Blue Ice) gets about 46/47 in his 7.5m scorpion with a 200 on the back

Ooops - have posted a couple of those pictures twice. Some more here. Our local slipway, birdflue carriers in Scotland, trailer loaded & ready to go to Loch Lomond, my son at the helm, Hi Flyer tucked up for the night.

N.B. Lot of discussion about tying down from the transom recently - have a look at this overhang. Ignoring the tailboard extension it is a long way back to any fixing point and I would have to dog leg any strap around the bottom of the transom to get back to the trailer. Short of buying a new trailer - any ideas?

HiFlyer Consol Layout

Here is our consol layout. Works well apart from the kill cord position. It's under the wheel. If standing you can wrap it around the column as you steer - need to move this.

Where do you clip the kill cord to?

If its around your thigh you shouldn't have a problem?

I clip it to the crutch strap of my lifejacket so it's just above the thigh. Quite right - could clip it lower down & less likely to snag. Just that it is tucked up under the wheel and seems to catch it sometimes.

I can't remember what or whos rib I was driving, but the same happened to me. I like to clip it to my life jacket D-ring, too irritating round the wrist. Not too much hassle to move the switch though. Nice looking boat by the way, im liking the front jockeys -very smart.

41 knots, wow! we have the 6.3mtr, with exact same set up as you have, 140hp suzuki, and tp out at 40 knots!!! what prop are you using? or was your speed with tide?

Standard prop that came with the engine. On Loch Lomond so no tide, no wind & pretty flat water at the time. No assistance, or anything to hold back the boat.

Longer hull maybe made the difference? Humber told me I would get 40 Kts with either the 6.3 or 7.0 mtr hull when I was deciding what to buy. I was going to go for a 200hp. They had just fitted one for someone else with not much difference in top speed. Bigger engine but heavier lump on the back & weight upsets the balance if don't move consol further forward. Longer hull helps keep it flat & level on the plane without the back end digging in - or so I'm told. Not exactly an expert but makes sense & speed seems impressive for this engine on a pretty heavy RIB.

hmmmm, i guess there is not much in size or weight difference between the 6.3mtr and 7mtr ocean pro, however the 140hp suzuki is such a light engine, i doubt it would dip the back end of our 6.3mtr much at all, which is rated to 200hp max. i may play around with some props, any ideas which pitch and brand would be best?

Sorry, not experienced enough to help out yet - worth speaking to Humber? or Suzuki? I'm sure there are people on here that can advise on props if you want more speed.
