I would have thought most rib hulls have come from hard boats , why should it be any different ?

Fairy (Supermarine) made Spitfires, after the war the Huntsmen and Huntress boats were built using the same wood laminate technology. I didn't google that info but, i'm sure someone will and correct me on detail.

Nor sure if its the same fairy but they also make winches and the old lnad rover overdrive units etc . used to be In Tavistock , may still be .

Didn't fairy also make the MTB or air sea rescue launches with the double diagonal timber and canvas.

No, Fairey Aviation/Marine was based at Hamble, actually Hamble Point. They used Hample airport and continued to build the Fairey Gannet into the 50's.They continued in the aircraft industry after WWII and produced the Fairey Knat and the trainer. Peter Twiss was their test pilot and broke the world airspeed record in a Fairey aircraft ( forgot name) but it had a droop snoot like the Concord. They then went into the marine business building high end cold moulded boats. Peter Twiss was marketing director , I think. Why do I know all this without having to Google ? Cos. Peter was my Dad's pilot ( Dad was an Observer/TAG in Fleet Air Arm) in WWII and therefore he was a family friend. Last I heard Unc. Peter was living in Winchester.
Regarding the MTB: they were made by Vospers in Gosport the design of which was given to the Americans and called a PT boat.
Supermarine were based on the Itchen ( Spike Island side, just upstream from the old floating bridge) and responsible for producing the Schieder Trophy winner 3 years in a row. Their designer R.J. Mitchel produced the Spitfire but died of cancer in 1939 in Romsey. Digging all these old memories up has made my brain hurt.

Well I thought theirs possibly a few owners on here who might think it’s a pretty close match? To there boat

If someone more i.t skilled than me was to put a set of tubes around the top chine/ spray rail it might look a little more like. Cut the free board down considerably!
