Helford River - last month

Took the SIB down to Helford and Salcombe last month for a few weeks.
Got hammered by the rain

but had a few good days at both locations.
I had been thinking about taking the RIB, but on reflection the SIB was the right boat as with the new launching wheels it was easy to pull it up on the beaches when we went off exploring, and also drag it out at the ford and onto the trailer at both South Pool and Helford village.
No 1 son also had his fair share of tiller time!

Shame about the weather, it'll be operfect next year.

Yes, it was a shame about the weather, those awnings drip into your pint...
Can you moor for a short time to the ferry pontoon? I'd like to be able drop in by rib, assuming it ever stops raining.

He did have, someone told me he had sold it though, may be wrong.
Tim Rice and Pete Townsend have places in Helford village on the south side of the river.

I remember risking my arse to rescue Townsends dinghy when I was 15, was hoping for a reward but were basically told to sod orf!

Can you moor for a short time to the ferry pontoon? I'd like to be able drop in by rib, assuming it ever stops raining.

When I was there it was being used by the ferry with loads of private mooring signs on it...peeps were pulling up and dropping people off, but not staying.

It's pretty much the same now, you can normally manage a sneeky drop off or pick up but can't leave a boat there for any amount of time. Best option is just to throw a trip line off the beach.
Be careful though! I tied up to the ferry pontoon last summer with my old boat late in the evening when you can get away with it and a child threw what could only be described as a boulder through my cabin window!! Karma? Maybe he was employed by the ferry people!

Pete Townsend sold, Rice and Taylor still have properties on the river, both with rather splendid drives I may add.

You'd have been a little to old at 15.

I see my local knowedge of the Village goings on has faded over the past few years!
Ours was the drive that runs Parallel to the 1st 100 yards or so of Rices, not quite so nice though, just gravel with some grass up the middle!
I wonder what percentage of properties are occupied all year round now? It reduced considerably whilst we lived there, doubt things have reversed since my Folks sold the place in 97.
Too old at 15? you're never too old for a reward!

Just realised where you're coming from, maybe a lucky escape!!

Hopefully see you out on sat, won't be out till after lunch, no car at the moment and my designated "tower" is busy all morning.

Yeah like it was last year, after that her indoors won't go on hols in this country again, still look on the bright side I could always go to Kernow on my own
