I'm with Jon Fuller on this one - having raced in a Phantom 18 with 200 hp (76 mph) as well as my boat with the same horse power (73 mph) I believe the only way to achieve those speeds is to have over 200 horsepower on that hull .

By the way congratulations on winning the race - whatever the speed it sounds like one awesome race!

Cookee I agree with you, Fantoms are quite fast boats also yours is a fast boat too.

However, as Pieter said the red FALCON is a racing hull!! very differently built than the recreational version that I've got.

With my VMax 200 and full load (2 kids, wife, me 15+ stone), about 120-150 ltrs fuel, a-frame, spare engine and 30+ mtr anchor chains, anchors, ropes life jackets, life raft, cool box, water container etc etc on a flat day (similr to the photos I posted previously) the boat does do at WOT 52.3 knots/hr

52.3knots * 1.853km = 96.911 km/hr or

96.911 / 1.6093 = 60.21 miles/hr

all that @ 5600 revs and trim @ 3.5-4

On my own in it same weather conditions, just 20-30 ltrs of fuel and all the other gear except the water container and the cooler it does 57.6 knots/hr or 63.22 miles/hr @ 5900 revs and trim @ 3.5-4

All speeds on the GPS but the electronic speedo showed more or less the same speeds give ot take one knot.

So what Pieter says about speeds is reasonable considering that the boat he is talking about is a racing boat.

As I always said this is a very fast hull!! You should come to Greece and go for a ride in it! May be then you will understand what I mean. However, if you can wait until April 2004 you will have the opportunity to see the 700SRS as well as the 640SR in two Int'l RIB magazines any way

All very interesting but how is that relevant to a boat with only 150 hp on the back?

All in my humble opinion of course!

NO DANIEL you are mistaken I always had a VMAX200. The racing boat I wanted to get which I didn't due to length restrictions in the UK was to be with a VMax 150

Well as I said with a rcing hull without loads on the boat, zupped up F2 engine the boat could achieve those speeds. (In my very humble opinion also).
Just theorising here. But it makes sence doesn't it?

cookee

thanks for your honest statement - and thanx for the congratulations on the race, it took a lot of preparation (you should be familiar with the saying that one can never do enough preparation before a race) - the Trans Agulhas is more an endurance event than actual speed - man and machine is taken to the limit over the 5 day course, and sea conditions vary vastly. As a matter of interest part of this race is a 20km nightshift, run at night without any lights - only glowsticks are allowed for identification.
