Tristar both ways. It is a bit quicker and the military were paying. 8 hrs to Ascension Island, 1 1/2 hrs there and the 8hrs on. It is nice to get a beer at 6am outbound and 11pm during the stop-over. You need that when you spend 16hrs. in a cigar can with 350 army, navy and RAF types. At Ascension the plane is emptied and you are put in the "cage" where there is a cafe, bar, duty free the size of a broom cupboard, a place to have your passport stamped (£1) and most important - toilets.
We were escorted from MPA by this Tornado. The pilot's son was 4 rows in front of me, both were waving like mad, which was a bit worrying when the Tornado was about 10ft off our wing tip. He kept station on our wing for about 15 mins.
I don't know about you, but I would recommend anyone with the chance of going to take it. But best to go between November and March.
