Engine Identification

Hi all,

From the attached pics can anyone help me with identification of an engine.

I was told it was a 50 HP Mariner circa 1988, but my research so far tends to show that it might be a Mercury from the early to mid 80's.

It is a 50 HP 4 Cylinder 2 Stroke 2 carb engine. The serial number plate is missing.

Any help would be appreciated so that I can get my hands on a manual for servicing and repairs. The engine runs okay if not a bit thirsty.

Presumably there is nothing suspicious at all, that all the identifying marks have been removed?
