Dun Laoghaire To Arklow Windfarm

Took a spin today Katandra and Wizard, from Dun Laoghaire to the Arklow wind farm.
The weather was perfect, a bit cold but good and clear, these wind turbines are huge and , a real feat of engineering, lying across the Arklow bank

We ran with approx 200 ltrs of fuel, this includes 25l surface reserve, 35l hidden reserve and approx 145l in our underfloor tank, covered about 68 to 70 miles at average consumption of 1.36 ltr per mile.
The smart guages on the opti showed 93l fuel in total used, and we maintained a cruising speed of 28 kts

Are you talking Nautical or Statute miles? Seems a little high in my experiance for 28 knots? Tend to find consumption a little lower at that cruising speed

Sea was very flat for most of the day. The boats were trimmed well up for most of the day.

Cruise speed for southward journey was 35 knots.

Return leg a good bit faster going with the breeze and much of it done at forty plus knots............

I will let you know my consumption after i do the figures next weekend.

That would make more sense. Just could not understand why the consumption was so much higher with the same engine as mine. Fuel consumption is my lifeblood at the moment, planning a long trip and range and consumption are everything to me.. Concerned I was wrong with my figures.

The Fuel consumption is right at 1.3 L/M over the entire trip , and thats natucal ..... statute miles dont belong at sea !!!!!

the last 12miles was almost flat out at between 36-44knots, and our lower crusing speed was 28knots ....... into a 2 knot tide.

QCAMEL,I also feel a scorpion would be a more efficent hull that our redbay, as it is basicly a commercial Rib, and has more beam that your rib.... our top speed is 46knots on a good day with 2 on board ..... 44/45 is the normal , and with 10 people and 300l fuel its 38knots, in saying all that we only pull 5300rpm at wot ... so we need to pitch down to a 19" prop at some piont.

Guess the hull design must be the issue then. Tend to run a little quicker than that when weather allows but obviously you would be happier when things get lively. Amazing the differance though, you are using about 15% more fuel. The smart gauges are fantastic though, a real high quality bit of kit.

Can you confirm that the SmartCraft guages can be set to read out in litres please?
