Caernarvon bar crossing, video link and photos

Just got back from some rather lumpy sea but the Humber OP was outstanding! So dry.

Meant to travel from Menai to Abersoch on Fri but realised from the off it wasn't going to happen! F5 and wind over tide. Travelled the straits with 6mph of tide in the bridges! Then out to the bar where we could see it was bad. Hoped to get over and then perhaps to morfa nefyn, but it wasn't to be. Suited and booted with goggles we crossed the bar, very good fun but very testing, some very sharp waves a good 10-12ft from bottom of trough to crest with many breaking. My passenger took 5 mins of video but then it died from a few large breakers. Gutted. Had to recover the card and put in another camera to post.

Footage is good but as ever the waves look tiny! We had crossed the bar when it starts, then we turn round and go back over it. Still too wet for the camera. On the way out we got airborne with prop out twice and heading near vertical, a couple of trouser moments on such a sharp sea

Awesome day out. Travelled back over the bar then had a beer in caernarvon, port dinorwic, Menai bridge, gazelle and Beaumaris, the Strait pub crawl!

Then on to puffin to see the seals. Used 65 litres of fuel over 50 mile against tide and fighting the weather over the bar and outside. Well chuffed.

Boat was excellent, as mentioned, passenger commented he couldnt believe how dry it was with the high shear bow. Obviously if we pushed harder a stuffing would have been easy, but better safe than sorry.

good quality video Paul, looks like you had a great time even though you had to change your plans, toss up now who has the best bar video your caernarfon or my aberdovey your sound quality is far better than mine what camera was you using.. think a fixed mount is better for wave jumping

would have love to have been able to join you maybe next time..

we could plan a trip round anglesey some time in the future i could trailer to caenarfon from here in a couple of hours just have to wait for a decent weekend

Great vid looks like you had fun

I was eyeing up a 'waterproof to 10m' camera in a shop the other day and thought it would be ideal for a rib, must go back for another look...

Camera "was" a samsung PL81. Only 3 months old. Just a digi camera on movie mode. It didn't get v wet really, might take it back and chance it.

Need a camera that makes waves look bigger! LOL

When we went over the bar heading out, it would have got wrecked in an instant!

Great fun though and the goggles were outstanding. No mist, nice and dry but still able to talk to eachother.
