I've just got an '08 Merc GL420. Loving it so far. 3.5 tons capacity and a V8!

Do you think in the original picture (although it looks cool) they got up in the morning and phoned each other to see what car they were towing with today?

Have they still arranged the peddles in the later motors the same as the older ones. After a good few miles it used to kill my back. Can't complain about the userbility of them, just not comfy and not enough grunt on a long haul

I might need some glasses, but is that boat trailer attached to a trailer and then the car?

How far are you going back?
My D3 with a remapped engine, auto never felt lacking and comfy to drive all day long!
My current D4 has even more grunt + 8 speed auto is very slick and even comfier too

A mate has had a Disco new every three years since they came out. To be honest the early ones were gutless and I thought badly built.
The latest one is some beast. Bags of power and a decent finish that you'd expect for around 60 grand. Anybody know why they've fitted paddle gear change?

My F in Law has the 8sp auto with flappy paddles. They are a daft idea on a big 4x4 and a bloody nuisance. He's not sure how they work, he hits them by accident, 'coz they're in the way and then gets stuck in the wrong gear until it gives him auto back!

Cos they fitted the daft pop up knob (oooerr) for the gear selector, so they had to fit the paddles to give you manual control. Personally I hate both the knob & paddles.

The Q7 has the paddles as well. I thought they were just a gimmick, until, I was on a B road and having a bit of fun. The auto box (even in sport mode) is a bit ponderous especially coming out of a slow corner. Then the paddles make perfect sense. You can put the car in the correct gear and it makes it a much smoother journey.
Just don't talk to me about engine braking.
