You can't plan for the weather here. pick the middle of summer (spotting those two days can be a bugger!!) and take a chance.

If this planning transpires let me know,I might know a sneaky place or two the tourists don't.

I would say mid May to mid July. Generally the driest and least windy, but you never can tell. The pics I posted were early June. Hot sun, frigid water and air icy at any speed. But it's great when you stop.

Keep an eye on the Atlantic systems on the Beeb weather site. When you see a high coming over the north, pack up and go - you might only get one chance.

Those two pics were taken about 1300. I set off in fog, vis about a mile if that. The weather site showed the cloud would clear the Ross of Mull by 1200. I arrived in Tinkers Hole 1210, anchored, and by the time I was sorted there was a clear blue sky and the world was steaming.

Shaggy was the guy sharing a very small tent with his friend Andy on the Scillies. There were some very odd noises coming out of the thing. And, Shaggy had trouble with his nuts the following day.

Unless I'm very much mistaken (and the vikings have spread further afield) the first two are Corrie harbour on the east coast of Arran.

For the brave among you there's always the ferry...

Best pictures of 2006

Ibnet, the Grocer was quite right. The first two are at Corrie on the east coast of Arran, and the third is on Little Cumbrae.Hopefully we can see some more of the beauty of the Clyde and adjacent Sea Lochs on this thread before too long.

IB, you must be in a different Scotland to me. This year's been superb. We've still got leaves on the trees and it's nearly December.

Codders, I was in the Outer Hebrides for 5 weeks through June. To early for midges but a cold air. Returned end of August and midges were wild when the air was still. I recon the very end of June into July is about the best bet. September is often good too but storms are a possibility.

The Scottish september this year was the wettest sep for 30 years! if the photee's elsewhere in this thread are typical for your Slapland, yes it must be a different one than mine...although whenever I speak to anyone south of the border I always say it's sunny..
