Autumn is here

Although beeing fantastic autumn with clear skies which have given us many hours of driving the MG Midget.

Couple of nights ago Jón Baldur catched the Northern Lights.

When on a snow safari in Finland a couple of years ago, we saw them twice, amazing sights.

Is there a scientific reason for them - am I right in saying nobody actually knows why they are caused? I can't remember!

Great piccies - also known as Aurora Borealis. Sadly I have never seen them in the flesh but have studied them quite a bit when I did my degree. Very basically it's caused by electrons(plasma) from the solar wind interacting with the Earth's magnetic fields.

Ok will check it out on Saturday as I will be "home" in UK for a week and the weather forecast for next ten days over here is clear skies and temperature around 10 degrees....... so pure T-shirt weather and we are already in October.

I'd love to see the northern lights. Once there where reports of it comming down to the South Coast, just my luck it was bloody cloudy .

It's on the list of things I want to see before I die.

Unfortunately I can not bring it south with me next week, but you are always welcome to visit and stay with us.

34"? Pram wheels Most of the Icelandic trucks use more like 44" tyres, very cool they are too. Especially the ones with 1000bhp V8s that can walk on water

It's caused by the particles from solar flares hitting the earth's atmosphere. You can usually only see them in very northern (or southern) latitudes but when the solar flares are really strong you can see them further south. I think I read they they were seen as far south as northern England once.

Were vaguely visible from home (outside Edinburgh) a couple of years back - not as good as those pics tho.
