Wow Ian those planes are fantastic , Stainless is a good idea too , iam fed up trying to stop my tools rusting with all the damp weather.

iam scared to ask how much one costs , but would love one or two in the workshop . problem is i don't get to use handtools very much such is the market these days .

what sort of steel do you use for the plane blade ??

Nick

ps: Fantastic work - I love precision made stuff.
I thought thats what i typed but just rechecked and your right

Ian ...I use A2 steel for the blades but i buy them in.

resting them on their bases really wont do them any harm but its good practice to leave them so the blade doesnt get nicked so i tend to sit them on a raised platform of sorts.

A2 for blade ......Lee Valley tools (Veritas) are bringing out a premium range soon ....some tools will be in stainless ...theres still a lot of developement but the first run is done ...i think they had difficulty in the investment casting, but more in the costings rather than the castings....this had led them to a slightly different nickel alloy which can be held on magnectic chucks for grinding but doesnt rust .....looking forward to seeing the proto's and would like to know their ingredients for the steel
