A great day out
At last! I found someone to go out in a boat with. Plus we finaly got Bill on the water. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is the story.
Thanks to Dave for a fantastic day out. Great chap, great boat.
The assembled throng were:
KH (WGS), Bill Davison, Peter Davison, David Manning, Stuart and his two lads.
The Boats: Avon 3.5m sib, old, battered, but great fun - with 8hp Mariner (courtesy of DM), Avon 5.5m Searider with 115hp Yamaha. classic 1960's speedboat (lovingly restored by Stuart) with 70hp Mariner.
The place: Upton Marina on the River Severn.

Pleasure to have yours and bills and stuart and kids company. Really nice day out but my biggest kick was seeing the three kids confidence in swopping from boat to boat and driving them really well. The pic of you in the sib looks great but why is the tube looking so soft. (Fat bast..d Hart) (Bill said that!). I took the pic of the barmaid, she's marginally better looking than you. A Great day out.
Big thank you to David for the use of the "Donkey" 8 HP engine. It's given me an idea about what I need for the river. Peter hasn't stopped talking about driving the rib and the speedboat. Thank you David and Stuart. Unfortunately Peter is always second best to his severely disabled brother because of his needs but Saturday he was number one son! Well that's what he's telling everone! A grateful thanks again.

To all,
It seems that last Sunday was THE cruise day for many of us. I made a EXTREMELY interesting "test drive" of this particular rib. The photo came from the tests they made in S. Africa (where the boat has been built). The "No LIMIT 700" is a 7 m rib powered by a Yamaha V Max 200, capaple of doing more than 60 !!! I saw it with my own eyes on the GPS. WAOUU

Keith,
Like you I live about as far from the sea as is possible, in Shropshire, and have thought about cruising on the Severn. How much of it is navigable? Do you know the best places to cruise?

I know that some of the Severn further North is navigable but I've never tried it.
We go on the river South of Worcester. You can launch from Kempsey or Upton-on-Severn. See www.boatlaunch.co.uk for details of the slipways.
There is a speed limit on the river (  honest ) and you need a day licence at a couple of pounds. However if you do a search and see previous threads, you will see that it can be a bit difficult finding somewhere to get one.
The Severn is a beautiful river and is well worth trying out. It is navigable from Worcester out into the Bristol channel. We will let you know when we go down next. I understand that David Manning goes out there quite often.
