Great looking RIB

I'm intrigued by the names, though...

timboli- yes that was me, she handles very well in the rough even at speed! i think mine is the only 6m solent with an outboard, but i could be wrong!

Tim- I remember, i moored along side you. that was a great day!

Richard- you would be correct in saying that i am a clapton fan! If you listen to lyrics of song, they fit quite well: "if you want to hang out, you've got to take her out, Cocaine", Plus the fact that the boat is white, might have something to do with it!

Thank for the replys guys.

That depends on how rough we are talking!
However i have had a couple of times where i have come out of the water at an angle and landing on the top of another wave on the flat side of the hull! that doesnt half give a slam! but that happens in most small ribs. i went out in a gale, the waves was just too big, 3m or so! i lasted 5 mins the came back in!
It it quite edgey (if there is such a word) at speed. but i enjoy a challenging drive in a swell!
it has a very deep-v hull, and rides very high out of the water

I nice pic of a rooster i managed to get:

Nice boat patriot .............. but 59 knots with a 135bhp opti and very deep hull and 3 on board I have VERY BIG doubts. To get that speed with that engine the boat needs to be at least 200-300 kgs lighter, empty of all gear flat calm seas (*no riples or anything) and on top of that you need a surface pearcing cone prop, engine as far up as poss and low water pick up on it.
I think it would have been more plausible (although doubtfull again) if you had said that it was the 250 Yam doing the 60 knots

Manos, Patriot said 59 mph, not 59 knots! That's around 51 knots - and Solents do have a very fast hull!

Thank you Louise!
Its not just a fast hull, it is in fact a Phantom race boat hull!
Anyway, the GPS doesnt lie! Also the engine is set at a height on the transom to get an optimum top speed, not to mention the 4-bladed prop im using!
next time manos i suggest you get the facts straight before you start having VERY BIG doubts!

I shall send you a message timboli when im next down, and we can arrange something.

I'm sorry but still don't believe it.

By the way a 4-blade prop is always slower than a 3 blade unless is surface piercing prop 6-8 blade and costs over 5K. To get those speeds with that engine on that boat weight and configuration I am sorry but I find it very difficult to believe. May be you made a mistake and it was 49 knots?

But whatever the speed the boat looks nice though

Manos, i get 43knots with 3 people and 100 litres of fuel on board.
With a 135opti 59mph should be easily achievable.

Now I see it, I thought that patriot said 59knots not 59mph which is 51 knots.

Ups , I am VERY SORRY and Patriot you deserve an appology from me and a beer in th the UK.

You need to check that 4 blade prop though. You may find that with a 3 blade prop you can go a tiny bit faster. As a matter of fact if an engine could have one blade prop it would go like mad. So more blades doesn't mean more speed as they only work under very certain sircumstances.

You may find a switch to Laser 2 prop will add an extra couple of knots to your max speed. How much did they raise the engine by?

My 200 is raised 2" running a 21p Laser 2 prop and with 210ltrs of fuel and me plus all my kit did 47knots at just under full revs.

The Laser 2 is also a surface running prop by its balde design and shape. Though not an out and out racing surface prop you will find will grab the water no matter how high you trim it. (I tried and got well over half way up the trim guage with a huge rooster and still wasn't cavitating!). The 4 blade will give you good grip for acceleration and cornering at speed but may knock a cuople of knots off your top end.

apology accepted manos! the reason for the 4-blader, is the engine is actually slightly too high for a three blader, i used to get some cavitation on take off, and when coming out of the water.
But anyway, all is well!

if i was to lie about the speed, i would love to say it does 60mph, but it wont go any faster than 59, its actually 58.8mph!

No worries Manos!
I will hold you to that beer!

Tue- the cavitation plate is about 3 inches higher than the hull line. i do have a 19" laser 2, which revs at nearly 6,000!

im happy with the results though, im tempted to have it chipped when the warrenty runs out! 150, or a75 maybe?!

Rumour has it that two members of this forum (who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent) recently had to slow down on a jolly down Southampton water or they would have over taken a Honda 150 race boat on speed trials. They were driving an ordinary Solent/Tohatsu with 150 Opti
