Hello Matt.
Most ribs are long shaft, you measure the distance from the top of the transom to the bottom of the hull on the centre line. Standard or long shaft is 20 inches Dave.

FYI
Short shaft 15 inches, inflatables and small speed boats
Long or standard shaft 20 inches
Extra long (rare) shaft 25 inches

Then Im certainly interested - do you know the weight of the engine? Ill go out and measure my transom in the morning. My 15HP Mariner is perfect for messing about on the Beaulieau River - but not the quickest out in the Solent! Ill PM you again tomorrow if thats OK.
