Yes could do that but when it's blown away in a gale and dented a few cars £600 will seem cheap

Home made RIB cover

I made my own after failing to find someone to make a decent cover. its made out of pvc coated cordura off ebay and stitched together with polyamide thread, again off ebay using a 120yr old hand operated singer sewing machine!
the cover has been great but did fade to grey within only a few weeks!

starting with a large tarp has got to be easier, as it saves having a seam the full length of the boat.

Cover mine with a large tarp which covers the trailer as well at a fraction of the cost of a fitted cover!
I have threaded a rope through all the eyelets so all I have to do is throw the tarp over the boat & trailer, pull on the two ends of the rope & it pulls itself in under the boat fitting nice and snug! No need for straps

Here is my attempt, not pretty but it is cheap and it works.

Tarpaulin from Machine mart about £20.00, £5.00 worth of bungees from the pound shop. Fit to one side of the boat (trailer in my case) using the eyelets and bungees, throw it over the boat and cut off the excess using scissors and then use the clamps shown in pic 2 for the bungees (not sure what they are called about £4.00 for 4 from Force 4 Chandlery) 10 seconds to fit and tools needed and they are re-usable, never let go yet!!

Total cost about £30.00 for a 6.5m boat, been on a while now, no leaks tears or splits. Best of all it doubles as a dry work area for those wet days.

Hello every body,

A good tip I was given for making covers was to build it using triangles. One big triangle on top. Remember to leave enough canvas to go over consoles and such. The triangle would be bow to transom internal. Then measure little triangle for the front. Then two more triangles for the sides to cover the tubes. PVC piping can be used to make and arch for the cover to stop water pooling. Will post exploded sketch plan asap.

Hope this helps

To clear up the top sketch, that's how to do the cutting pattern on the canvas. You would then flip the port and stbd sides. So point us stiched towards the bow. And tee bow triangle base would large enough to allow the points to be sewn together. Or.forget the bow section and have a of bungy sewn between the two. To keep it in place. Enjoy
