The Raymarine is old Gen kit - I had one and srsly, don't buy into that era. You have working charts on a phone/tablet - and say what they will - you can make that work for the times you go inshore if you bag it well. The compass was a no-brainer. I have the VHF I recommended and it will serve you well. It requires no networking, just 12v and it works. It provides good offshore comms, an accurate postion and basic Nav capability. With DSC alert it will also summon help if required. A cheap plotter can be grabbed at any time in the future (and it will be) but a man who is tooling up to land on the Saltees* next year needs a decent DSC VHF.

Yes I can see your point! Safety is always the chore!! Not really a fan of running around with out proper communication. I will look into the standard horizon Radio seems like a good set up for just a few more pounds. And yes the Saltees will be in the future so best be prepared. And now that I have a compass coming I wont end up in Wales somewhere! That being said I am still waiting on the seals for my gearbox so I am not going anywhere. At least its currently ugly weather.
