Whats the pro's and cons of....

Honda BF175 vs Suzuki DF200 ?

The DF is a bigger block so should have more torque. Think the prop is a tad bigger in diameter too with a bigger gear ratio. If weight is not a concern then go the 200

Edit: just checked the spec and there's not much in it cc wise or weight; so it'll just be down to corrosion then (and 25 geegees). No contest!

Assuming both are similar age, hours and history - Go for the Suzi, no contest +1

PROS - Suzuki

CONS - Honda

Is the power at the prop of the Suzuki actually 200hp? It's just I've heard a lot of people say that they are measured differently to other outboards and if its kicking out the same as the Honda 175 then the Honda is a better deal.

All outboards are measured at the prop (now). Older yank motors used to be flywheel rated, but they had to fall into line with the Japs eventually.
The DF140 is reputed, to being a bit deficient in ponies, but not the DF200 (same motor as the DF225)

From memory, the HP rating is supppsed to be +/-10% to qualify, and the DF140 just about gets into the 10% bracket on average. Still a very good motor though.

I have to say as a Suzuki DF140 owner the fuel economy is absolutely superb and I'm not just saying that because I have one, I'm saying it as I always over estimate the amount of fuel I have to refill the tank

I have to say overall the engine is fantastic

But I'm not messing here, I really need a great deal on a 200hp (max) XL outboard that is going to make me glad that I bought it. It can be new or slightly used but it has to be an awesome engine and an awesome deal

We have a pair of Mercury 200hp Optimax Engines available soon. Both are XL shaft with less than 300 hours, 1 owner and good history. Both with rigging. These are a matched pair, so one is a standard RH rotation and the other is a counter rotation.

Both fitted from new to the same boat.
