20/25hp 2 Stroke Shortshaft Outboard

Want a little extra power this year and am after a 20/25hp.

Two stroke/Shortshaft/Tiller control.

Must be tidy and reliable.

Ideally Mariner/Mercury or Yamaha twin cylinder.

I do have a 2005 9.9hp Shortshaft Johnson Fourstroke in mint condition less than 75 hours use I could P/X or swap.

There are no modern 20 HP in 2 strokes mentioned brands, just 25 & 30 HP upwards. Get any Tohatsu, Nissan, Mercury 25 and pas it to 30 HP for peanuts cost. Or check the Yam 25 conversion kit price to pass it to a 30HP. Both 25 & 30 mentioned engines brands are same size & weight, just HP restricted.

Happy Boating

Not 'any' Merc 25 though, only the one which is a Twatsoo under the paint.

converting a modern tohatsu 4 stroke from 25 to 30 will involve

ecu
cam
inlet throttle body
throttle cam
stickers

I would guess £800 for parts

converting a yamaha 25hp 2 stroke to 30hp is not possible.. 4 stroke is as above?

A four stroke is out the question due to weight.

Yamaha did do a 25/30 from a two cylinder block, the one on bill highams site. That's too much though!

Yamaha also did a slightly smaller 20/25 again 2 cylinder, I did have one of these once, 1992, but I have seen them maybe up to 2002, not sure if they were done any later. I think these were usually autolube.

I like the merc/mariner 25hp as they are simple, I forgot about the Tohatsu 25 that would also be good.

I like Yamaha and Mariner as I have access to the parts for these, and as mariner rebadge the Tohatsu 25, these are good aswell.

The 3-cyl Yam 25/30 is a good motor, but very rare in 25hp guise.

I think these are about 60kg, possibly a little more, a little on the heavy side for me. Trying to keep the weight as close to my current set up with the fourstroke as possible.

I like this one, if it was £495 cheaper!
