Raymarine Plotter

Has anybody had a problem with the Raymarine 435 switching itself off after 5 minutes??

I guess that's a colour one? We have a 425 which doesn't do anything like that, although we did have a problem last summer which a full system reset resolved.

How do you do a full system reset Richard ?? does the plotter have to go away or can I do it ? I'm waiting for my instruction manuals to come.

Wayne, if I remember correctly, it was just a key combination... but you can download the manual here: http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/Default.asp?site=1&SECTion=3&Page=168&Parent=166 I think your plotter is about half way down the page.

Our 435i chartplotter does the same thing - the time it takes to turn off is not reliable, but is something that should not be happening. We also had the backlight go, which they fixed quickly.

Excellent service this week from Raymarine.

I had a new 435 Chartplotter last summer and had intermittent condensation problems. I e-mailed Raymarine, they suggested that I return it to their service dept. I sent it off last week and just four days later it was returned, repaired without charge.

Great service and a really nice product!

My problem was sorted within a week Paul,took in in to JBT Marine where I purchased the Rib and I had a brand new one delivered to me two days later.
Great service and no problems since.

I'd still like to know how to get the speed up on the screen,set the time so that my Icom reads the correct time and not an hour late.Offsetting the time does'nt make a difference.Any ideas?

We encountered this when we installed our Icom a couple of weeks ago and connected it to the Raymarine chartplotter. When I checked the Icom manual it said that this could not be altered:

"The local time indication is not available when a GPS receiver (sentence formatter RMC) is connected, the transceiver's display indicates UTC time only" Icom 601 manual p. 37. Presumably it's something to do with the fact that the chartplotter receives its data from satellites that don't necessarily turn their clocks forward and back as we in GB do! :eh:

I read that myself but it seems a bit strange to me.Surely if use raise a distress call it will show up on the coastguards screen as the wrong time.Or am I getting this wrong?Is it the Raymarine 435 you have Louise?if so how do you get your speed to show,I've looked everywhere in my book and can't find out how.

Hi Wayne. We've only got the 425 :( but I think they work in a similar way. Have you tried pressing the 'page' button repeatedly until the 'Navigation Data' page is displayed? This should display:

Position
COG
SOG
Waypoint
Bearing
GPS fix
Range
Time
Date
Direction to steer

Hopefully Gingercoastie or some other helpful person may be able to help us out regarding the time problem?

Hands in the air on this one as I may also have it wrong.

CG work on UTC and all distress relays are such.

We use a lot of Ray 435 conected to Icom 601s and the set up is simple and great. When first connected the Icom will show UTC time and can be simply reset by a time adjust on the menu screen.

JohnB may correct me here but my understanding is that on a DSC Mayday the time transmit will be UTC whatever the user time offset on the panel.

Do think though that whatever the case the prime importance will be lat/long and distress. Those receiving will receive at the time when it gets through unless of course we have a time warp !!

You've got a RIB parked on your drive so I reckon they've already worked out that you're beyond help! :p
