Hello

I have gone through 2 simrad waterproof sets, in the last 2 years, could be bad luck?????? but the second one looked like it had been submersed for weeks (it was'nt) so went for the icom 501 with dsc.....had it a year now now trouble, find the buttons easy, and the screen does mist, but is bigger than the simrad, so you can still see it (just) the clarity is good, although have an external speaker too. One good thing about the icom is the fistmike has a speaker in it as well, so with wind etc, you can hold it to your ear.
Personally would'nt buy another simrad (with the other boats we have now been through 5!!!!!!!!!!

Could not agree more.... I have had two Simrads, nothing but trouble, the Icom however gave years of trouble free service....rather pricey though!

If anyone is looking for a new Radio now the ICOM MC501 is a bargain!

ICOM have launched the MC503, and the only difference is that the 503 has a remote facility so that you can have access to the radio from your flying bridge or second navigation point - not usually required on a RIB.

I recently bought my 501 - it seems excellent - and was reduced by some £60 from the original price I was quoted for it due to the launch of the 503.
