New Navman GPS/fish thingy

looked quite good and had a demo on it , uploaded a route from Cmap's pc mapping software onto it via the CF card.

yeah it's a quite clever bit of kit. I think the long screen is quite a good idea as most of us don't drive sideways.

The other nifty bit is that you can couple up you engines OSD to the device and get the messages displayed on the screen. Jasper brought one home from work and they are really impressive hes trying to get one on trial

Looks kool - if expensive - but doesn't it have NMEA out for DSC ??? doesn't mention it in the specs... (mentions NMEA in.... not quite the same thing)

I was weighing this unit up as am undecided over route to take for set of electronics. If you have Smartcraft capable motor it gives the full set of information as standard with analogue displays, fault finding etc ! It seems to be about £1199 inc. VAT including a Superwide C-Map chart free (worth £280 or so) The depthsounder looks every bit as good as their 4500 model £600 worth so seems a nice system. It's only £77 to add the fuel sensor too allowing fuel info to be displayed also. It seems be a nice all in one unit.

My debate at the moment is over C-Map or Navionics, I need full UK coverage and can get 2 XL3 Navionics charts for £199 inc. VAT each, it would seem I will need 5 superwide C-Maps charts to give the same coverage £280 each. I was told Garmin Blu Charts are much the same cost but have not seen any adverts for them.

Does anyone have any preferences with foundation rather than just familiarity concerning the chart formats ? I found everyone at the show seemed to prefer whatever they had used and were not interested in comparisons.

I looked at this compared to the Lowrance series and came to the conclusion it was not a bright as the Lowrance and had less flexibility in terms of size of numbers, sharing the screen real estate. Also Lowrance seems (when you take them apart) to be designed from the bottom up to be waterproof, while Navman appears to have added it as an 'afterthought'. Happy to be contradicted on this, but this is my only vaguely informed opinion.
