Wiring Nav Lights!

Hello to all who comprise this vast font of knowledge!
Does anyone have simple instructions on wiring Nav Lights? I just found that mine aren't working and from what I can see it looks like the wire is broken in the battery compartment. I have no idea when it comes to wiring apart from red to positive and black to negative on the battery. Is there a simple way to confirm that this is the problem and can I fix it myself? Or should I pay a professional? I am thinking that it's a relatively simple job??

Just use a cheap and cheerfull multimeter to measure continuity - basically if the circuit is complete you get a beep - failing that a simple 12v bulb will do the trick!

Forgot to add they may be fused - check that as well.

You can use 3 core cable. Blue to ground, brown to side lights and green/yellow to anchor light. That way, you only have to run one length of cable. Tinned cable is best but, if you seal the ends, don't loose any sleep over it.
