Garmin 188c dirty screen

Somehow the screen on my 188c has what looks like dried on water droplet marks all over it, almost making it impossible to see. Tried plain water, no good. Warm Soapy water, no good.
Has anyone got any ideas what is safe to use to clean the marks off? I have had suggestions of Meths but want to be 100% first. I will see what cmeas back before I speak to Garmin.

I have a 182 that had what sounds like a similar problem. I used screen wipes for a laptop computer - which i think have an alcohol base - anyway they are bought from PC World or Staples.

Did the trick for me

Also have the same problem. The gloves wot I wear when ribbing are the dinghy type with chamois palms and clean the screen up a treat. Perhaps a small bit could be carried for that purpose. (The gloves are also useful for wiping the spray of the Gecko visor :] )

Computer screen cleaner or better still lens cleaner from an opticians. Normally a tiny aerosol can of alcohol based cleaner. Safe for use on plastic lenses so should be absolutely fine on a Garmin screen.

My 182C had the following instructions
" This lens is coated with a special anti-reflective coating which is very sensitive to skin oils, waxes and abrasive cleaners. CLEANERS CONTAINING AMMONIA WILL HARM THE ANTI-REFLECTIVE COATING. It is very important to clean the lens using an eyeglass lens cleaner which is specified as safe for anti-reflective coatings and a clean lint free cloth."

Sounds like wrong cleaner and serious damage to screen :] :sick:

George is right, the colour screens are particularly fussy from the anti-glare coating point of view but worse still, if you use a solvent like meths, you may damage the waterproof seal.... which would be even worse.

Give Garmin a call in Romsey. They may have some suggestions, or if its still under warranty may well just replace it!

Thanks everyone. I managed to find my wife's glasses cleaner and cloth from when she wore glasses. They had a anti scratch and anti reflective coating so the cleaner for that should be fine.
Off to re fuel ready for tomorrow so will report back later!!!!!

So far so good.
Glasses cleaner in spray bottle & cloth. No alcohol or any other chemical such as ammonia etc etc.
Had to work at it using small circles gently but it is now 100% clear!
