What Plotter

I am in need of a plotter for my new rib purchase, can anyone recommend an entry level Plotter / fishfinder that is simple to use and prerably colour.

garmin 450s, 550s, full uk coverage built in, easy menus. and you can add g2 vision card later.there are a few threads on the new garmins if you do a search.

Agree with TB, we have the Garmin 555s on the yacht. Great little unit with built in GPS ariel so one less wire and conenction to worry about. Fired up straight away out of the box and the built in map showed the pontoon we were tied up to. The S version has the echo sounder which is useful, so you know when you are about to run aground. However not cheap at this time of year and still too new for secondhand ones to be available in any quantity.

Garmin 550 gets my vote too. First plotter I've had and I find it easy to use. Charts and tides pre loaded and included in the price.

How about the Raymarine A series? they look pretty good - do they compare with the Garmin?

I would say Raymarine are the best of the lot but they aren't cheap!!! It's a British company as well.

My C80 has been out in all weathers and still works fine - my Navman fuel computer gets really bad condensation.There is another thread on here with people complaining about some Garmins suffering condensation as well.

When I came into Weymouth the slipway was shown on the navionics charts on the Raymarine but wasn't shown on the Garmin Bluecharts.
