Hi All,
We've been looking for decent tracking devices for a while to protect our RIBs from theft or at least to recover them in such an event but despite looking at several devices we didn't find anything suitable until we found these:

If anyone is interested in finding out more, their sales guy Chris Ashdown will be at RIBex next weekend so I'm sure he'll happily give you a demo.
Several RIBs have gone missing in recent months so it's worth the small investment! Afteral, you don't want to miss out on the RIB antics this summer! I hear sunshine is on its way too!

Hi Malthouse,
Here's some more info I've cribbed from various emails.
The RRP for the unit is £399, with a annual subscription of £120 per year which gives you 5000 position reports per month, and 10 Start/stop commands or SOS commands.
The unit can be installed to a 12v or 24v battery source either on the RIB or inside the outboard motor casing, if the cable is cut to the unit, it can still report for up to 3 years on a low frequency or heightened to retrieve the craft once you know the cable has been compromised.
Other features include, start/stop on the outboard motor, using your mobile phone, SOS switch to install in case of emergency back-up, and geo-fence and lockdown functionality. Soon they are developing an iphone application for users to track and use the various functions, on the move from any location using the online interface.
I particularly like the sound of being able to stop boat engines at the touch of a mobile phone, that would really confuse the thieves!

What makes this superior to the ones on ebay that use a pay as you talk simcard, cost less than half as much and have no subscription fees-apart from being waterproof?
Check the site below for GPS trackers and GPS/ GSM signal blockers :eek: seems serious thief's are one step a head, the forum quite good as well.

I would say the main difference is the online interface which is much better and easier to use than others I have come across. It's also more sleek and as you pointed out waterproof. With most trackers you can buy the unit and the SIM card sends Lat and Long so you can track it manually, the SUCCO has a system for this which is really nice.
The GPS blockers are slightly worrying but at the end of the day you can only do so much to protect something, if thieves are going steel your RIB with military precision then a tracker certainly isn't going to offer 100% protection. Hopefully that won't be the case!
Perhaps you can buy a GPS signal blocker that blocks the original GPS signal blocker?!?

You can get briefcase size ones that will take out a whole office block. Great for security vans and the Police now use digital as well - at least with analogue something usually manages to get through!!!
Whoops I was thinking of mobile phone blockers - GPS blockers are even more worrying - I know the RN have been using them for a while - usually on a much bigger scale.
I remember someone had a faulty active TV aerial unit that was blocking all GPS in a south Coast marina for quite a while until they managed to find out who was causing it.
