If you registered on the old forum system, you may have noticed that the information fields in the user profiles were not very relevant -- well that has all changed now!

If you click on the "Use CP" button towards the top right of the page (that's User Control Panel by the way), and then select profile, you will be able to update your information. It's completely optional but it's nice to know where people are at least!

Would it be possible to attach a photo of your rib to your profile - That would be cool:]

It would be possible, but it's unlikely that I will implement it because having to load the pictures would slow things down without really adding very much.

If people want to show off their RIBs, then the Gallery page is the best choice!

An idea would be to have an area dedicated to 'PROFILES'
where you can access all the people who are members and herein have photos of the individual or their 'pride and joy'.
Actually, a bit like Kevin Gouldings web-site? Just a thought!

I've seen on some other "vBulletin" lists pictures appearing next to each posting. I assume this is what you meant by

"It would be possible, but it's unlikely that I will implement it because having to load the pictures would slow things down without really adding very much."

I agree - this wasn't quite what I meant! Sometimes after reading a post I click on "Profile" to see some further details about the person, what type of boat they have, what they do etc. At this point it would great to be able to see a picture of the rib that they describe.

Only a thought....

Yes Jools, I like that idea too.
Many of us on this Forum do our boating mainly in UK and near-UK waters.
I often see other RIBs at sea and many times go over and say "Hello". It would be nice to be able to recognise the Skiper as well.
How about it John? Just in the Profile section.

I'll have a look at putting something like that together.

The "profile" section of the forum is one idea, but I've been thinking about making it a bit more comprehensive than that and having a separate section on the site where people could have their own mini home page with as much or as little information as they want.

What do you all reckon?

Great idea if you can afford the disk space

I think it would be of interest and value to Forum members if each (who wanted too, of course) put up a) their mugshot and b) a photo of their current boat PLUS some details about it i.e. engine, nav. and radio kit etc. That way we could contact a particular individual and ask questions about their experience with a specific item.

I agree, Brian. It would be useful when going to events etc. to have a clue what someone looks like if you want to meet to talk about something. BUT it would show clearly just how ugly some ribsters (and ribs?) are!

For what its worth, I run a community in the MSN community pages and we added a photo gallery for our member's mugshots and it has proved to be very popular and useful. Over 90% of our members have sent in their piccies. By keeping it as a seperate entity from the other sections of the community, it ensures that dowload times are not affected in the main area and it can be nice to be able to put a face to a name.
