Have a Gramin 550s...very pleased with it. Be even more pleased if I could work out how to get it understand GMT BST. It seems the only option is WET (Western European Time) and so the GPS (and VHF) are an hour out.

I've trawled through the manual and the functions of the unit itself but to no avail.

Any ideas? :(

have you set the vhf time offset, and check in tides tables to see if the garmin is at the correct time.

OK...got the Garmin to read the correct time but the Icom VHF reads UTC (one hour behind). Found the offset blurb in the Icom handbook (thanks for that) but it says "The local time indication is not available when the GPS receiver is connected; the transceivers display indicates in UTC time only"

The radio only needs the time so the DSC alerts it sends have a time on them (I think). For distress and urgency working, the Coastguard work in UTC. All such relay broadcasts are timed using UTC. I would just leave it alone.
