GPS to Radio

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help? I have a Cobra MR F55 fixed vhf radio and a Garmin 178c GPS, can anyone tell me which wires from the GPS I need to connect to the radio to enable the GPS to provide a location fix in an emergency?

The radio wires are black and red, GPS choice of half a dozen or so. Plus when its connected correctly will the start up screen on the GPS show that an external device is connected?

Neil, if you have the manuals you will see NMEA out (or Data out, or COM1 out - or whatever garmin call it) on the GPS this needs connected to data/NMEA in (or NMEA+) on the radio. You need to do the same with the ground connection (the radio may call this NMEA-). If you don't have the manuals I am sure google will find them for you (or at least the wiring colours).

GPS will not know if it is connected to the radio or not. The radio should display a position on screen if it is working properly.

Connect blue wire from garmin to Red wire on radio, connect the two black wires.
