Hi
Have just purchased a CP 180i. Need a blank memory card and a card reader so I can down load my own GPX files to the CP. Contacted SH tech support and they refered me to C-map. I can buy a chart card for $200.00 that includes the Sea of Cortez but it is based on a paper chart that was done in 1873. C-map only offer their card/software package for $179.00 and I do not need the SW. How do I solve this problem or have I been screwed. Also, the C-map compatability table does not include the CP180i.

Not sure I can help here.
This really is a C-Map issue.

GPX files? What package are you using?
Our plotters only work with the C-Map software, as far as I know.

Hi Jon
Thanks for the response. Appears I cannot get there from here but maybe in the future. C-Map will not sell a reader and blank card only. Their chart is no good for my purposes so I will have to make my own using EarthNC. FYI Garmin now produces software that allows creating your own charts and downloading direct to their CPs. and I think it is free.

Not really. Just a case of no alternative.

I don't know if it helps, but you can use GPS Babel to convert all sorts of gps coord files into other formats. I used it to convert my Lowrance waypoint files to Raymarine format & it worked a treat. http://www.gpsbabel.org/

My routes and waypoints need to be based on Google Earth/ Earth NC because the paper and electronic charts for the Sea of Cortez were made in 1873 and are not complete or accurate. If you are interested you can see what I have already done on line.
http://earthnc.com/about_online
Go to the section on the right side bar and select San Carlos Mexico and zoom way in. All that stuff is mine and it took a looong time to create. Our new house is about two miles west of the San Carlos marina one row back from the beach near the jetty and launch ramp. I have a deal with Google and Earth NC ( Earth Nautical Charts) to publish my stuff.
On the lefthand sidebar you can select Trip and route planner and see a video of how it works. Yes, it is free.
