Ok, seeing I am a complete noob at all this, what are the steps to getting the licence renewed on a boat?
The last licence ran out in 2005 and I never bothered renewing it as never went far on the boat...As the boat has gone for an extensive rebuild I thought I would do everything right this time!
I got my VHF ticket a couple of years ago but thats as far as I got!
What do I have to do?Treat me like an idiot...I havent a clue!!

This might help: http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8967 :)
thanks for that..
The boat already has a mmsi from the previous person....Is it easier to get that one re licensed or just get a new mmsi?
Thanks

The previous owner may have surrenderd the old number as the mmsi number relates to his details, therefore you will have to apply for a new number with your own details, and buy a new radio to enter that number, or send the old radio to the manufacturer to see if they can erase the old number from the memory, as the entering of the mmsi number is a one off instal.
okey dokey, thanks for that
MMSI numbers stay with the boat, even between owners.
When you apply for a license there will be a field to supply either the MMSI number or international call sign. Assuming Ofcom haven't reallocated the MMSI number (unlikely, unless its been sitting for ages without a license) they will allocate it to your license.
the previous licence ran out in October 2005, so presumably it ll still be there?
Yeah probably. If its still available they'll reassign it to you, if not you'll get a new one.
