EGNOS is the European version of WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation Services) which is already live in the US. You will often see GPS equipment marketed as WAAS compatible over here which is a bit of a laugh as WAAS itself is not available in Europe.

The Galieo system from 2008 is going to be interesting though. Makes us less dependent on George W so must be a good thing!
