Anyone own and use one of these?
I am thinking about getting one for my SR4. The only place it would easily go would be on top of the jockey console, but its a little exposed out there.
I heard that its not as waterproof (not up to IPX7 standard) as a lot of the competition, so could probably fabricate a low plexiglass screen, but wondered if any other peeps had one of them and could give me their impressions.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I've played with this at various boat shows and I think it's the one Jimbo has on his rib. I like it a lot; the joystick is great to use compared to the Garmin 4 way button. Seems to be a very robust unit. Jimbos is certainly very waterproof so I wouldn't worry about that. I intend to upgrade my Garmin 178c at some point soon and I shall most probably get a SH. Jon Brookes demo'd a very sexy model they do at Ribex to me which has video input which means you can watch DVDs from the comform of your helm seat!!

Thanks Tim

Quite why you would want to watch a DVD while helming??
The Cruel Sea? The Poseidon Adventure ?
(Line starts here for the myriad of bastardised titles to follow....)

(I meant comfort not conform)

It's totally pointless unless you have a big boat and link it up to a camera but I think it would add a bit of "pimp" factor. Im also looking at twin waterproof subs which could work well too!

Hi,

2 weeks ago I installed my new C180i on my Gemini WR 550 and I am really satisfied with this chart plotter. Especially the handling with the integrated joystick is released in a good way. I payed 599 Euro in combination with a C-Map Local chart. Standard Horizon gives 3 years of waterproof warranty.

The only thing you have to think about is, that the C-Map charts are more expensive than the Navionics Gold charts. For the same price (at least here in Germany) the Navionics Charts offer a broader region)

The CP180 and 180i have a three year waterproof warranty which most of the others on the market do not.
If it lets in water in the first three years it get replaced!

I have the big brothers of this unit on my boat, the CP300 and CP500.
Not just because I sell them but I have been really impressed with both.
Not many sales guys use their own kit in anger.

I have used many plotters over the years but this is the first job where I have sold them and had to learn a lot in a short space of time.
They are all very easy to use and set up.
This is one of the reasons they are doing so well in the magazine reviews.

Hope that helps.

Jon...thanks for the post above, but I am now a little bamboozled.
I approached my local chandler, Storrar Marine in Newcastle, to purchase a CP180i. When told I would be fitting the unit on the top of my console on my rib, the sales person went off to make a phone call to Standard Horizon, who told him that the unit was NOT suitable for such an application, specifically referring to the units waterproof rating. The CP180 flush mounted would have been OK, but not the 180i mounted on top of the jockey console. Storrar Marine were not happy about selling me the unit in those circumstances.
Any help? Clarification? at all?

thanks
Andy

I had the same thing when I went to buy mine - I have held off buying whilst I worked out whether I could mount one in the console instead (external gps version)
