Since a few weeks I own a Watercraft RI22 with a Mermaid Turbo Four inboard diesel engine. This boat is built in 1982 and was used as a fast reacue boat on an oil rig in the North Sea. To make it compliant to dutch law I have to install a dead man switch which kills the engine in case I fall off.
The dashboard has a switch marked "ign". I was thinking to install the switch in line with this switch but today when I switched the ignition switch with the engine running it just kept running as if nothing happened.
In the documentation that came with the boat there is also an original factory circuit diagram dated 2-11-1982. Unfortunately for me the dead man switch was removed in this revision. (I have issue number 3 and the switch was removed in issue 2). So assume it must be possible.
To kill the engine the boat has a pull lever that is mechanically connected to the engine right next to the throttle.
Can anybody tell me how I can modify the installation to install an electronic dead man switch?
Thanks for the help! Frank
