It would appear that it is available in the UK as the site offers pricing in pounds. I obviously do not give a tinker's cuss about CE approval. Who the hell checks up on it anyway. I refuse to be a Brussels puppet when I live 5000 miles from that bunch of !!!!!! Regards, T. Limey Linda 15 July 2007, 15:48 Regarding the CPV 350. Does Mr. Brooks have any input on this product. ( I know he is busy playing with his new toy) I currently have no electronics and in the process of re-working the console, which is a single. The CPV 350 would be ideal for my purposes due to limited space. Any help or advice or input from anyone would be appreciated before I start cutting the console and commiting to circa. 1000 bucks. If one of us UK Ribbers was to buy and fit one of these super duper Radios exactly what would happen to us and what would be the likelihood of anything happening to us ! Nasher 15 July 2007, 19:27 I believe it could be used if you can persuade somebody to re-programme the VHF Channels to the UK frequencies. Nasher AndrewH 17 July 2007, 15:00 That's a fair point. If one of us UK Ribbers was to buy and fit one of these super duper Radios exactly what would happen to us and what would be the likelihood of anything happening to us ! Check further in on the thread that Codders linked to. I think Jon Brooks' summary was fine up to £5k and possible confiscation of boat. As in all risk assessment exercises you have to way up likelihood, frequency of risk and severity of outcome. Whilst I agree that in the first two categories the score would be medium to low, the severity of outcome is pretty serious. Also according to Mr Brooks the reason that it fails CE marking could well be emissions related. Picture the situation - you happen to find yourself with the local harbour master travelling alongside and he can't work out why some of his electronics are playing up all of sudden. When he moves away from you (speeds up/ slows down) all of his kit sorts itself out. Now he is suspicious - was it a fluke or was it you? So he moves closer again, and guess what the problem reappears. Don't get me wrong I'm no lover of Brussels paperwork and I'm playing devil's advocate a bit, however a failure on EMC emissions may be one that is a little more obvious than failing the 1m drop test used in CE testing. As with all things you pays your money, you takes your chances. BUT better to do it with a little background info from an expert like Jon B first ! Thanks T. Never to busy to help. The CPV-350 is a cracking product as is the CPV-500. Its a real shame we can't have them here, legally. They would have been the choice for my "new toy" if they were. For you in the good old US of A no problem at all. Cheers Limey Linda 18 July 2007, 22:53 Thank you Jon Just wanted a bit of re-assurance.
