Have just taken delivery of new Solent fitted on their recommendation with Lowrance 522 plotter/ fish finder. Total novice on plotters- most of my navigation training with paper charts.Very pleased with both so far but unpleasant surprise at cost of chart cards. Trying to work out best value combination. Will mainly be based Solent/ South Coast but also occasional trips to Wet Coast of Scotland.

Do large coverage cards- eg whole UK have similar level of detail to small (eg solent) cards? If so probably sensible to buy one rather than a number of small series charts.

Hi Dave

The detail on the cards is the same.
Just one will cover a larger geographic area.
That is why you will find that are priced different.
Smaller area should cost you less money.

I bought a Lowrance 8200c couple months back and went for the navionics 28xl ?? Gold (dont think Lowrance can use the Platinum charts). Its the chart that covers the whole of the UK (split up int 5/6 sections). I thought it was expensive at £160 but way better than the NauticPath.

Chart areas here http://www.navionics.com/ContinentChartCatalogNew.asp?ContinentID=4&Gold=1

Plotter info here (think its your one) http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/LMS-522CiGPS.asp

If you want any screen shots of any particular areas off the chart drop me a PM and I'll do some screen shots off the NavPlanner software.
