Hi,
Does anyone know where i can get my hands on a; 'Standard Horizon HX600S' handheld? if so do they also know if they are programable? & if they will take a Yaesu VC25 VOX headset & MH34 speaker mic?
I want to upgrade from my Yaesu VX-2 (upgraded to TX as well as RX) as its not waterproof but i have found it's pocket size great as a back up VHF.
This maybe one for Jon Brooks?
Mike.

In the UK/EU this unit is known as the HX-500.
This can be purchased through any UK dealer.
Best regards

Rich,
The HX-500 is a tad smaller than the HX-270/370.
Has the socket for speaker/mics/headsets.
The HX-370can take licenced PMR channels and can be programmed from 136-174 MHZ.
The HX-270 and HX-500 can only be programmed with standard marine channels, this includes private marine channels.
A licence will have to be shown before we or any dealer will do this.
Best regards
Hi Jon,
Can the HX500 be programed with Channel '0'?
As when out if you end up involved with a rescue it's handy to Rx on channel '0'
Had a Radio licence for years & upgrade to DSC :)

CH 0 can only be programmed in if we see sight of you having written authorisation to have it from HMCG.
That goes for RX too.
Neither us or our dealers will do it without.
You can only, legally, listen to that which you are licensed too.
Cheers
Jon,
As i understand it, it is only ilegal if your seen to act on the information you hear, as with a scanner as they are not ilegal.....Gray Area time again:]. But they can be programmed thats all i need to know, cheers.
P.S the YAESU VX-2 you guy's do is top kit, even better with the Rx-Tx hop-up & marine tuned arial, used one for years:D just a shame they arn't water proof:(

Spike,
If you look on the Ofcom website under scanners you will find it is not grey at all, sorry.
People used to think as you do but I have to say it is wrong.
You can only listen to broadcast that you are licenced to.
Other than the normal, radio 1 2 etc, Ham radi and a few others.
HMCG is not one we can all listen to
