I've got a Navman Tracker 5505i and I'd like to be able to use it at home to plot routes etc and I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a spare cable and connect it to the termnials on a battery charger rather than have to go to the expense of buying a spare battery, anyone know if it's safe to do this?

Also, are spare cables easy to come by?

you could splash out on C Map pc planner and user card, you could then plan your trips etc on the pc and transfer the data with the user card, the kit costs about 150 quid.

Fred DO NOT connect it to a bettery charger, it will not be pure DC and will damage to the plotter!!

Battery chargers often use half wave rectification because it is cheaper.
You can run electronics from this if you have a battery in parallel with the charger because the battery absorbs the high voltage spikes that would kill electronics.

Either go down the PC planning route or get yourself one of these

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to take the Maplin route and buy a power unit and have also ordered a spare cable for my plotter.

Cheers!
