Damp in Garmin display

Hi All,
Has anyone else had problems with damp getting into the display on the large screen Garmin GPS/Chartplotters like 2006C?
The first one was replaced by Garmin but the replacement has gone wrong in a matter of weeks. Damp gets into the display and makes it impossible to read part of it.
Am I the only one?

Nope you're not the only one, I had a 2010c in my last Rib, kept fogging up, was told by Garmin to put it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days, which seemed to rectify the problem for 3 months, then it came back so had it replaced. But you are correct you cannot read the display when it does fog up. Very Frustrating.

Yep, me too on my 2006C. I'm on my second unit, and it fogged up quicker than the first. They did the first replacement free of charge, I'm not sure how they'll react when I send it back again.

I think its caused by water vapour getting through the little breather hole on the lower corner of the front of the unit. I'm tempted to dry mine out and stick some tape over it and see what happens. If i don't succeed I'll buy a Raymarine!

C70. Fogs up in nearly all weathers. Was particularly bad this weekend - virtually entire display was oblitterated... only possible to make sense of it by cupping hands around the screen and peering at it ... not good.

I have the C80 and it's been fine - only use the normal cover - not even a console cover. Only gadget I have had trouble with is the Navman fuel computer.

What's been the problem with that?

Misting up all the time and 1/2 the digits missing - then it will be ok again until it rains or is damp. I thought it had packed up for good but it seems to be fine again now - didn't work for about 4 months!!!

All these units SHOULD be sealed. The displays should not be affected by moisture. If you can, take them back to the dealer, because anything less is a failed unit, no mistake. I mean manufacturers make these for a marine environment ..come on...they should be gas sealed, hermetically I think is the correct term:thumbs:

My small screen Garmin 192C was misted up first time I used it - crap. Haven't bothered changing it, as it clears after a while and it's not too obtrusive. If it gets worse, I'll be calling on Garmin's excellent customer service which everyone raves about on this forum. I should add that they did send me a new power lead for it when the contacts corroded away to nothing after 2 months :@

Well, Garmin have come to the rescue again :) . Mind you it has taken almost 5 weeks.

I sent my steamed up 2006C back to them which was out of warranty, and they have replaced it with a newer model for a very reasonable 'repair' cost.

Worth sticking with their products me thinks.

They are sealed, just that it's only to IPX7 which is waterproof, not vapour proof. Fine in the rain, but useless in fog I suppose :D .

Both my Garmin units get a bit of damp in the middle of them. The fine weather sorts them out as does a bit of use. Not ideal but they are fitted to my console and I'm too lazy to take them out and undo all the wiring.

I have the Garmin 192 and experience the same problem but only on sunny days and it usually clears up within about 30 minutes. This is kept in the house except when in use.
