Analogue signal to NMEA

Can anyone help ?

I have just bought a Lowrance 8200C and will hopefully fit it this weekend.
I believe it can display engine information from a Yamaha engine if connected to the Command link port.
However my engine is bit older (2002) so has no NMEA port, but it does have a Diagnostic port. I know that there is a company who supply a box that can convert from Volvo analogue signals to NMEA, but is there anything available to do the same for my Yamaha outboard?
I have spoken to lowrance who said although they have nothing to do this as yet, it is in the pipeline to get done at some point ( a year or so).

Does anyone know if this is possible or know anyone who could help.

Thanks

Tim

I'm not positive, but I would guess that the diagnostic output from your motor is not analog, but digital, in some sort of proprietary format.

To get that to talk NMEA (either 0183 or 2000) you'd need to decode whatever is coming out, and convert it to the appropriate NMEA format. Not really all that small a task if starting from scratch.

The Command Link port on the newer engines is a NMEA 2000 compatible output, I believe.
